A leadership succession at North American Construction Group Ltd. will elevate the company’s current president and chief operating officer to the top CEO job at the start of the new year.
The heavy civil contractor and mining service firm said Dec. 16 that executive chairman and CEO Martin Ferron, will step back from his position as chief executive at the end of 2020, while retaining his place at the head of the company’s board.
Joseph Lambert, who has served as NACG’s president since 2017 and its COO since 2013, will take over as president and CEO starting Jan. 1. He will also take a seat on the company’s board.
“I am very proud of the many achievements NACG has attained during my eight-plus years tenure as CEO,” Ferron said in a release. “None more so than the development of Joe Lambert into the right person to succeed me. From the outset, he impressed me as an operating executive of the highest caliber and has since applied himself with complete dedication to become the CEO this company needs to take it through and beyond its next phase.”
Ferron added that Lambert’s experience in both mining services and construction make him “well suited” to carrying out the company’s diversification strategy aimed at expanding the business beyond the oilsands and further into the natural resources industry.
With a background in the mining industry, Lambert originally joined NACG in 2008 as general manager of the company’s Mining operations.
“Working with the great team of people here that I know well, I can assure all stakeholders we will continue the journey of safely achieving our strategic objectives,” Lambert said in a release. “Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and enduring a very difficult Q2 this year, our business is recovering well and I am eager to continue this current positive momentum.”
